Spyware is a term used to refer to files and folders that have been installed on your computer,
without your consent and knowledge, for the purpose of
tracking your Internet surfing habits. This information
is used to create identifiable user profiles which
advertisers use to direct their SPAM mail to.
Many advertisers now offer opt-in programs to eliminate
negative publicity. Avoid posting your real e-mail
address on websites or newsgroups, as there are some programs (web bots) that scan the Internet for e-mail
addresses. Use an anonymous e-mail address like Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo.

We
have found that by using the Mozilla Firefox browser instead of Internet
Explorer, we have all but eliminated the need for spyware removal
programs. Mozilla is unaffected by most spyware and will also block
pop-up windows. The latest version of Mozilla browser is called
Firefox, and is very quick and robust. Some people still require
Internet Explorer for various reasons, so if you are limited to that
choice then try some of the software we use to clean spyware from our
clients computers.
