WARNING! Running utilities might change the way your system works.
The system configuration utility allows you to control which programs are auto-loaded when you START your system each time. If you are unsure what changes are going to be made and the effect the changes will have, you should ask an expert. Always back-up your system files before making changes to ensure you can undo the changes you have made. The system configuration utility is called msconfig, and is included in Windows 98, ME and XP operating systems. To run msconfig, click on Start, then Run. Type in msconfig, and click OK.
To prevent unwanted programs from running each time you start your computer, go the the Startup tab in the system configuration utility and uncheck the box that corresponds to the program you want to stop from loading. Some programs need to have a small portion loaded at startup, so do not remove and check boxes until you are sure you do not need the program auto-loaded. For a comprehensive list of programs that may appear in your startup tab list, check the following websites to view the requirements for safe removal and additional information about each startup item.
